DiscoverEU Initiative Returns with 40,000 Passes for Young Travellers
Successful applicants will get free rail travel and discount cards for transport, culture and accommodation, officials said.
- Applications for DiscoverEU are open until April 22, offering more than 40,000 free travel passes for Young Europeans through the Erasmus+ initiative, which has received 1.9 million applications since launching in 2018.
- The program targets Young people born between 1 July 2007 and 30 June 2008, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the Schengen area and enabling travel across 29 Schengen states, including Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.
- Winners can travel by train for up to seven days within a one-month window between 1 July 2026 and 30 September 2027, with the option to travel solo or invite up to four friends to join.
- Successful applicants receive a discount card unlocking deals on transport and culture, and can explore the pre-planned DiscoverEU Culture Route featuring cities like Cork and Valletta recognized by the European Commission.
- Glenn Micallef, Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, stated the program allows participants to "experience Europe by rail, discovering new cultures and gaining a deeper understanding of our shared values.
