Nate Ament Reacts After Ending up with Milwaukee Bucks, 'Big Shoes to Fill'
The 6-10 freshman forward averaged nearly 17 points a game at Tennessee and was the Bucks’ second first-round pick.
On Tuesday, the Milwaukee Bucks selected University of Tennessee forward Nate Ament 13th overall in the 2026 NBA Draft after acquiring his rights from the Miami Heat in a trade for All-Star Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Monday's massive trade deal sent Antetokounmpo to Miami, prompting Milwaukee to rebuild its roster by also selecting Arizona guard Brayden Burries with the 10th overall pick.
Ament averaged nearly 17 points per game in his freshman season while shooting 79% from the free-throw line, demonstrating versatile offensive skills despite his need to improve strength at the next level.
Joining a frontcourt featuring veterans Myles Turner and Kyle Kuzma, Ament told reporters at Barclays Center in New York on Tuesday he views the opportunity as "tremendous," despite the organization's difficult rebuild path.
Though some analysts worry the 19-year-old is a "project" requiring development time, the Bucks aim to integrate Ament and Burries into their lineup amid a challenging path toward future championships.
