Mid-Air Scare: Hyderabad-Bound IndiGo Flight From Madinah Diverted to Ahmedabad After Bomb Threat

The flight was diverted as a precaution after a bomb threat email was received mid-air; security checks confirmed the threat was a hoax, police reported.

  • On Thursday , an IndiGo flight 6E58 from Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport, Madinah to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad was diverted to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad after a bomb threat.
  • An email warning arrived at 9.50 a.m. while the plane was airborne, prompting IndiGo to divert the flight amid recent delays and a diversion from Kuwait to Hyderabad the previous day.
  • The plane landed around 12 pm, passengers were deboarded, and the Central Industrial Security Force, Airport Police, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, and Dog Squad launched intensive checks, said Zone 4 DCP Atul Bansal.
  • Authorities later determined the threat was a hoax and found no explosive device; RGIA police registered a case and launched an investigation while airport operations remained normal.
  • Flight 6E58 departed Madinah at 5:28 a.m., against a scheduled 2:10 a.m., and was due to land at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at 9.45 a.m., keeping it airborne during the warning.
