IndiGo, Air India Group to shift flights to Navi Mumbai airport ahead of Mumbai T1 redevelopment

  • Starting in December 2026, IndiGo and Air India Group will progressively shift domestic and international flight operations from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to the new Navi Mumbai International Airport to rebalance regional traffic.
  • This transition supports the redevelopment of CSMIA's Terminal 1 by 2030 and facilitates a dual-airport system for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, easing capacity constraints while allowing infrastructure upgrades.
  • From February 2027, IndiGo will shift 12 daily international departures to NMIA, adding a new service to Kathmandu to reach 12 destinations there. This frees capacity at CSMIA for expansion across Asia, Africa, and Europe.
  • Air India Express begins operating four daily domestic flights from NMIA in December 2026, followed by international services to Kuwait and Oman in January 2027. The airline will progressively transfer West Asia operations including Jeddah and Sharjah.
  • Adani Airport Holdings Ltd is coordinating with the airlines to manage the phased transition and infrastructure requirements. Final schedules depend on project coordination completion and receipt of necessary operating approvals.
