Authorities say the infant was last seen around 4:20 a.m. and may be with a 31-year-old man, prompting a police search.
On Thursday, May 21, 2026, the Hammond Police Department issued an Amber Alert for 6-month-old Devaeyah Lucas-Bell, last seen around 4:20 a.m. in Hammond, Indiana, and believed to be in extreme danger.
Investigators identified 31-year-old Deandry Sabbs as the suspect, described as 6-foot-2 and 208 pounds. Sabbs was last seen driving a gray 4-door Nissan sedan with unknown Illinois plates.
Authorities described Devaeyah as 22 inches tall and 16 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Law enforcement agencies worked together to track the pair shortly after the alert was issued.
Officers from the Hammond Police Department found the infant safe and unharmed in a hotel in Schaumburg, Illinois, on Thursday. Police took Sabbs into custody without incident, leading to the alert's cancellation.
Amber Alerts are warnings for children under 18 believed to be in danger. The system, created to honor Amber Hagerman, requires specific information about the victim and abduction for law enforcement to issue the alert.
