Kohli in the Runs as India Thrash New Zealand in ODI
Kohli hit 74 off 51 balls as India overcame rain and a revised target, with Arshdeep Singh taking four wickets in the series opener.
On Wednesday, Virat Kohli struck 74 to guide India to a five-wicket victory over New Zealand in the rain-curtailed first ODI at Eden Park, Auckland, a day before his 38th birthday.
Captain Shubman Gill elected to field after winning the toss, and his young pace attack dismissed New Zealand for 185 runs in 40.2 overs.
Arshdeep Singh took 4/70 and Gurnoor Brar claimed 3/44, while Anshul Kamboj conceded just 22 runs in 10 overs; Gill said the bowling was 'magnificent to watch.'
India reached the revised Duckworth-Lewis-Stern target of 143 in 22.4 overs, securing a 1-0 series lead as Kohli and Gill added 113 for the second wicket.
The five-match series moves to Wellington on Saturday, where India will seek to extend their early advantage with Kohli's form providing momentum.
