India Summons Pakistani Envoy After Naval Collision in International Waters
India said the collision caused no major damage and violated a 1991 military accord requiring advance notice and safe distances at sea.
- On Wednesday, the Ministry of External Affairs summoned the Pakistani Charge d'Affaires in New Delhi following a naval collision in international waters between Indian and Pakistani naval units.
- India claims the incident violated Article 10 of the 1991 bilateral military agreement, which requires naval ships and submarines to maintain a minimum distance of three nautical miles.
- The Ministry described the Pakistani Navy's conduct as "unacceptable and unprofessional," though the collision caused no major damage to either vessel.
- Following the collision, the Ministry delivered a strong protest to the Pakistani Charge in New Delhi and instructed the Indian Charge in Islamabad to lodge a similar complaint.
- As of today, neither the Ministry of Foreign Affairs nor the Pakistan Navy had issued a formal response regarding the collision or the protest from the MEA.
