India says signed BrahMos missile deal with Vietnam
Defence Secretary R.K. Singh said the Vietnam deal has been signed and Indonesia talks are in final stages, as India expands missile exports in Southeast Asia.
On Saturday, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh announced that India has signed a BrahMos missile deal with Vietnam, marking the first official public confirmation of the agreement.
This agreement follows India's strategy to supply BrahMos missiles to Association of Southeast Asian Nations partners, building on a 2022 contract worth nearly $375 million with the Philippines.
The Vietnam contract could be worth about $629 million, including training and logistical support, per Reuters reporting; Singh emphasized India shares advanced defense technologies only with "friendly foreign countries."
Singh also noted that a similar procurement deal with Indonesia is in the "final stages," while India continues expanding defense ties across the region amid geopolitical uncertainties.
India now positions itself as a dependable defense manufacturing hub for missile systems and aircraft, with government-owned companies accounting for nearly 72% of the nation's total defense production.
India's Brahmo weapons system has proven its worth in combat and is becoming the best seller in Asia. Putin also benefits from this in addition to the subcontinent.
