India moves to resolve Scotch tariff dispute under UK trade pact: Reuters

  • India and the United Kingdom face a dispute over whether bulk Scotch whisky used for blending qualifies for the trade agreement’s reduced 75% tariff or should instead face the previous 150% duty.
  • The dispute involves companies and blended-whisky brands that use imported bulk Scotch, including Diageo, Pernod Ricard, Radico Khaitan, Allied Blenders and Distillers, Royal Stag, Blenders Pride, McDowell’s, 8PM, and Officer’s Choice.
  • About 80% of Scotch imported from Britain arrives in bulk, and India received more than 220 million bottle-equivalents in 2025, according to industry estimates and the Scotch Whisky Association.
  • The United Kingdom is working with India to resolve the issue, which could affect whisky prices, sourcing, manufacturing costs, and local blending operations.
