- Expanding renewable generation requires shifting focus from capacity creation to transmission, storage, and supply. This scheme supports India's transition toward ambitious non-fossil capacity targets by helping integrate Renewable Energy into the grid.
- Greenfield Intra-State Transmission Systems projects will use Tariff Based Competitive Bidding, while brownfield upgrades follow a Cost Plus Basis. The State Transmission Utilities will manage implementation, supported by Rs 54,082 crore in Central Financial Assistance to reduce power costs.
- Deploying Battery Energy Storage Systems at developer ends addresses grid intermittency and peak-hour curtailment across States and Union Territories. This infrastructure will generate direct and indirect employment in power, manufacturing, and construction while benefiting end users.
- The scheme is targeted for completion by 2032-33, contributing to India's long-term energy security and ecologically sustainable growth. It will also foster skilled employment in operation, maintenance, and grid management across participating regions.
