- On Friday , the Government of India enforced the four Labour Codes, consolidating and rationalising 29 labour laws with immediate effect.
- The reforms introduce single registration, a PAN-India single licence and single return to reduce multiple filings, and the government says these simplify processes and promote Ease of Doing Business as part of labour regulations modernisation.
- All workers including gig and platform workers will now get expanded PF, ESIC and insurance coverage, fixed-term employees receive gratuity after one year, and employers must provide mandatory appointment letters plus free annual health check-ups for workers above 40.
- Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya hailed the implementation, calling it a guarantee of dignity for workers and saying the reforms are a major step for workforce welfare and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
- Under the Code on Wages, 2019 all workers gain a statutory minimum wage, and the government says this supports a future-ready workforce and the goal of a developed India.
