Inaugural HBCU Hoops Invitational Coming to Walt Disney World Resort in December
The inaugural tournament will feature eight HBCU teams competing in single-elimination games and offer scholarships and career development programs for student-athletes.
- The first HBCU Hoops Invitational is scheduled for December 4-7, 2025, at Walt Disney World's premier sports venue in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
- HBCU Hoops Global, Inc. established this single-elimination competition to highlight the basketball programs of Historically Black Colleges and Universities and to support the academic and professional development of student-athletes.
- The men’s bracket features Florida A&M, Tuskegee, Florida Memorial, and Barber-Scotia, while the women’s bracket includes Bethune-Cookman, Hampton, Edward Waters, and Cheyney universities.
- Florida A&M, led by Charlie Ward—who recently took over as head coach and is a former Heisman Trophy recipient—anchors the men's field as the team returns from a 14-17 record last season. Meanwhile, Cheyney University’s women’s program is notable for being the only HBCU to reach the NCAA Division I Final Four, achieving this milestone in 1982.
- Organizers plan year-round support through scholarships, academic assistance, college fairs, and career development, aiming to build a legacy extending beyond basketball.
