SAN JUAN (AP) — Tropical Storm Melissa dumped heavy rains Wednesday on parts of Haiti, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic, while forecasters warned of a significant risk of flooding in the northern Caribbean and authorities warned of a significant risk of flooding.
On Wednesday, the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in the Dominican Republic raised 25 provinces on alert, including nine in red, due to the effects of tropical storm Melissa, whose large cloudy field continues to generate intense rains, thunderstorms and gusts of wind in much of the country. According to the agency, precipitation could lead to sudden floods, floods of rivers and landslides in vulnerable areas.
Tropical Storm Melissa continues to wreak havoc across much of the Dominican Republic. The National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewerage (INAPA) reported that 52 water pipelines were affected by the intense rains associated with the atmospheric phenomenon.
