Leadership Hails Kashmir Martyrs’ Day
Pakistan’s leaders renewed support for Kashmiris and condemned India’s actions as they marked the 95th anniversary of the 1931 killings.
On Sunday, Iltija Mufti claimed that she and her mother, Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti, were placed under house arrest ahead of Martyrs Day observance in Kashmir.
July 13 is commemorated as Martyrs Day in Jammu and Kashmir, honoring 22 Kashmiri Muslims killed by the Dogra army outside Srinagar central jail in 1931.
Alleging police involvement, Iltija Mufti stated they were detained for reasons best known to J&K Police, while accusing the local government of using police in Sidhra to demolish homes and detain opponents.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the 22 martyrs on Sunday, marking the 95th Kashmir Martyrs Day, also known as Youm-e-Shuhada-e-Kashmir.
Pakistan urged India to release political prisoners and halt human rights violations, stating that lasting peace in South Asia remains contingent upon resolving the dispute per United Nations Security Council resolutions.
