I Will Never Be a Happy Woman: a Story by Jaime Bayly

My eldest daughter, a prodigious memory lawyer, residing in the capital of the declining empire, asks me, in the most friendly terms, for an air ticket to fly to the city of dust and fog, where she has been invited to the wedding of one of her best friends. After reading her mail, I am flattered and happy. I feel that she loves me, that everything is fine between us, that she comes to me when I can help her.
My octogenarian mother, who will hopefully reach the age of one hundred, since she is healthier than all her children, writes to me lovingly, with a patience of saint, forgiving me everything, and asks me that the first days of November I go to vote as a responsible citizen and do not hesitate to do so for the right-wing Republican candidates she supports.
