Alvarez apologises for Barcelona comments after scoring Atletico winner
The Argentina forward scored the decisive goal and said sorry for comments about wanting to join Barcelona.
- On Saturday, Julian Alvarez scored the only goal as Atletico Madrid defeated Deportivo 1-0 at the Metropolitano, sealing the win before addressing his controversial World Cup comments.
- Tensions stemmed from Alvarez's World Cup comments where he said he "wanted to fulfil his dream" of joining Barcelona, triggering a summer transfer dispute that soured his relationship with Atletico supporters.
- Alvarez told Movistar Plus his comments were a "mistake," while goalkeeper Jan Oblak stated "bit by bit he'll win over the fans again" through continued effort and dedication.
- The victory moved second-placed Atletico within 2 points of LaLiga leaders Barca, as Alvarez netted for the second consecutive match to bolster his team's title push.
- Real Madrid, third with 21 points, visits Barcelona at Camp Nou on Sunday for the season's first Clasico, a fixture crucial for the league's top standings.
