India, West Indies Sanctioned for Slow over Rate

India was fined 20% and the West Indies 10% of match fees after both teams were ruled short on overs in the final ODI.

  • On Saturday in New Chandigarh, India and The Windies received sanctions for slow over-rates during the final ODI. India incurred a 20 per cent match fee fine after being four overs short, while The Windies received a 10 per cent penalty for being two overs short.
  • India clinched the three-match series, but The Windies concluded the ODI tour with a historic victory in the final game. Shai Hope led the chase with an unbeaten 162 as The Windies successfully chased 352.
  • Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, match referee Prakash Bhatt imposed sanctions. On-field umpires Jayaraman Madanagopal and Sam Nogajski, alongside third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Virender Sharma, levelled the charges.
  • Captains Shubman Gill and Shai Hope accepted the proposed sanctions, eliminating the need for formal hearings. Gill said the team needed "fine tuning" following the defeat, noting the over-rate delay significantly impacted game control.
  • The two sides now turn their attention to the five-match T20I series starting Tuesday, October 6. This transition follows the conclusion of the ODI leg of the tour as teams prepare for the format change.
