Man Wanted for Spraying Anti-Immigrant, Antisemitic Graffiti in Little Village, Chicago Police Say
CHICAGO, JUL 26 – Antisemitic hate crimes rose 58% last year in Chicago, with far-right groups linked to increased vandalism targeting Jewish communities, officials and experts said.
- In Hyde Park, authorities said vandals tagged at least four locations with antisemitic messages, police said.
- According to a July 18 city news release, antisemitic hate crimes increased 58% last year to 38% of total hate crimes.
- Authorities said the suspect, described as a white male, 25-35, 5 ft tall, 165-180 lbs, with short black hair and long sideburns, sprayed `ICE RULES` and swastikas, police said.
- The situation has, experts and advocates said, shaken Chicago communities and spurred support for affected neighbors.
- Looking ahead, Chicago's Human Relations Commission plans to hold September hearings on antisemitism, supported by police data showing hate crime arrests decreased from 14% in 2021 to 5% in 2024.
