Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of the National Defense Council, headed this Monday at the Palace of the Revolution the meeting of that body to evaluate the recovery actions in the eastern region of the country, affected by Hurricane Melissa three weeks ago.
Three weeks after passing through the islands, leaving torrential rains and floods in multiple areas, "almost 477,000 boys and girls" are being affected by the consequences in educational terms, according to the statement published by the agency on its website, where it has indicated that these minors are being forced to miss class or to study in temporary spaces not always adequate.
The torrential rains and floods caused by the meteor damage or force many schools to close in Cuba, Haiti and Jamaica. Three weeks after the storm, classes have not been regularized in those countries. The agency for children supports governments to meet the most urgent needs of children.
