O'Brien gave pre-election projected housing figures 'in good faith', Tánaiste says

Housing figures in 2024 reached 30,300 – almost 10,000 units short of the number promised by the Minister for Housing.

Ministry representatives say it will take two years to complete the planning changes and design competition, although the prime minister has announced the first moves for mid-2026. A special law on state-owned housing and the National Housing Fund will be written next year, and implementation will begin in 2027.
