French Zoo Returns Poorly Panda and Partner to China
The female panda's kidney failure led to the couple's early return to China, ending their historic stay where they produced France's first panda cubs, zoo officials said.
- Huan Huan and Yuan Zi, two 17-year-old pandas, are being returned to China earlier than planned from the Beauval Zoo in France due to Huan Huan's kidney failure.
- The pandas produced three cubs during their stay in France, with the eldest leaving in 2024 and the twins expected to remain to raise awareness about protecting the species.
- The Beauval Zoo hopes to extend its partnership with China beyond 2027 and possibly bring in more pandas in the future.

French zoo returns poorly panda and partner to China
Two pandas at a zoo in central France will return to China in November after the female was diagnosed with kidney failure, the park's director told AFP on Monday.
The female, Huan Huan, suffers from kidney failure. "We prefer to transport her to China before her worries get worse," explains the director of the zoo. Binoculars born in 2021 remain for their part for the moment in France.
The woman suffering from kidney failure, the director of the zoo and his team preferred to "carry them to China, before her worries worsened".

On the other hand, their Huanlili and Yuandudu twins will remain in France while their departure was originally planned in 2025.
The stay of the female Huan Huan and the male Yuan Zi, the main attractions of the only zoo in France where it is possible to admire this species, had recently been extended until January 2027.
