Spruce, WV was established in the early 1900s as a timber camp by the West Virginia Pulp & Paper Company. At its peak, the town was home to around 300 people as well as a 20-acre mill, company store, schoolhouse and hotel. Cass Scenic Railroad plans to start making stops in the ghost town of Spruce as part of one of its excursions starting in the 2024 season.
