Houthis Claim Surface-to-Air Missile Hit on Saudi Eurofighter Typhoon
The Houthis said the jet was hit by a locally made missile as fighting with Saudi-led forces intensified, though the claim remains unconfirmed.
On Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, claimed Houthi forces struck a Royal Saudi Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon over Saada Governorate with a surface-to-air missile.
The alleged engagement follows a sharp escalation in the Saudi-Houthi conflict after Houthi forces seized Red Sea territory in September, prompting Saudi-backed forces to launch the 'Dawn of Yemen' offensive on October 4.
Houthi forces released infrared footage purporting to show a proximity detonation, though independent verification remains absent. The group previously wounded 309 people in strikes on King Khalid International Airport on October 10.
The Royal Saudi Air Force operates 72 Eurofighters supplied under the 2007 Project Salam deal valued at £4.4 billion, though Berlin previously blocked deliveries over Yemen conduct before lifting objections in January 2024.
This incident follows a September claim by the group that it downed a Saudi F-15SA over Marib province, which military publication Janes described as the first combat loss of that variant.
The Yemeni Husit rebels showed the moment of the defeat of the Saudi Air Force fighter Eurofighter Typhoon in the sky over the northern part of the country. As can be seen from the images published by Ansar Allah, the anti-aircraft missile went off in front of the aircraft.
