Houston Texans Co-Founder Janice McNair Dies at 89
Janice McNair, co-founder and senior chair of the Houston Texans, died on Tuesday at age 89, the team announced. She moved to Houston in 1960 and co-founded the franchise in 1999 with her husband, Robert McNair.
The McNairs focused on education and medical research, contributing more than a half billion dollars to charity through the Robert and Janice McNair Foundation and the Houston Texans Foundation. Janice served as director of each foundation.
McNair is survived by four children, 16 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. In 2025, she was inducted into the Texans Ring of Honor, celebrated for bringing professional football back to the Bayou City.
Texans Chair and CEO Cal McNair said, "Mom leaves an indelible mark on our family, our team and our community." Texans Head Coach DeMeco Ryans praised her "signature warm smile" and welcomed return to Houston in 2023.
The Houston Texans Foundation, established in 2002, has raised more than $51 million to support H-Town youth development. Following Bob McNair's 2018 death, Cal assumed leadership of the franchise while the foundation continues her philanthropic vision.
