Following the apposition of the plaque dedicated to Lieutenant Hartwell, who was reported missing, and to the American liberators, on 8 May at Gambsheim station, a number of inhabitants of the village wished to testify to this painful period of war. Christophe Viller, who was very involved in the historical research of that time, collected this information which he placed in their context.
