California Colleges Scramble to Fill Gaps Left by Federal Grant Cuts to Latino Students

More than $350 million in federal grants were cut, forcing roughly 200 Hispanic-serving colleges to reduce student support, research, and academic programs, officials said.

Grant money had gone toward lab upgrades, paid undergraduate research grants and grad-school fellowships that benefited all students.
