BRONX, NEW YORK, AUG 1 – Officer Didarul Islam was posthumously promoted to detective first grade at his Bronx funeral after being fatally shot during a Midtown Manhattan mass shooting, NYPD said.
- Amid pouring rain, mourners gathered to honor Officer Didarul Islam as six New York Police Department officers carried his casket through a Bronx neighborhood, where loved ones and leaders praised his devotion.
- On Monday, Officer Didarul Islam was off-duty working security at 345 Park Avenue when a 27-year-old armed man fatally shot him in the lobby.
- For Foysol Ahmed, a community leader in Parkchester, Officer Didarul Islam brought pride through humble service, deeply felt by the Bangladeshi community.
- During the funeral service, Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced Islam had been posthumously promoted to detective first grade, and Deputy Inspector Muhammad Ashraf praised his dedication to the community.
