MONTEREY — About 30 people attended a public hearing on the budget and proposed tax rates held by Highland County supervisors.
Anticipating public outcry over the proposed 12-cent hike to the real estate tax, supervisors held the meeting in the Highland County Public School gym, but only about 30 people attended. Eleven spoke to the board, all urging supervisors not to raise taxes to that rate; many suggested they cut the proposed budget.
