UN says found 225 arms caches since Israel-Hezbollah truce
- Since the ceasefire took effect on November 27, 2024, UN peacekeeping forces in southern Lebanon have uncovered more than 225 stockpiles of Hezbollah arms and handed them over to the Lebanese army.
- The ceasefire, facilitated with the involvement of France and the United States, stipulated that Hezbollah must retreat to areas north of the Litani River while Israeli forces were required to withdraw from southern Lebanon.
- With assistance from UNIFIL, the Lebanese Army has established a presence at over 120 fixed locations south of the Litani River; however, their full deployment remains impeded by Israel's retention of forces in five key border areas.
- Hezbollah’s weapons caches represent a violation of the ceasefire terms, while Israel continues strikes targeting Hezbollah operatives and infrastructure in southern Lebanon.
- The discovery of weapons and incomplete troop deployments indicate ongoing tensions and hinder stabilization efforts along the Lebanon-Israel border.
