Hegseth: US didn’t start war with Iran, but we are ‘finishing it’
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Operation Epic Fury targets Iran's missile and nuclear capabilities with over 50,000 U.S. troops involved and six service members killed, officials reported.
- On Monday, Pete Hegseth, U.S. Secretary of Defense, refused to rule out boots on the ground in Iran, saying the U.S. `would go as far as we need to go`.
- After a monthlong buildup, including relocating the USS Gerald Ford, the administration launched Operation Epic Fury following the Friday final order, according to officials.
- Operations centers in Tampa, Florida and the Pentagon directed strikes on more than 1,000 targets in the first 24 hours, and since Saturday four U.S. troops were killed while three U.S. F-15 fighter jets crashed with all six crewmembers surviving.
- Several House members, including Rep. Garbarino, said Congress will be briefed this week, with some showing opposition to ground troop deployment, as the House reconvenes on Tuesday.
- More U.S. troops and airpower are expected Monday as the conflict spreads across the Gulf nations, damaging Dubai International Airport, and military leaders warn of a lengthy campaign.
