16 Departments in Orange Vigilance: From What Temperature Is Your Department Considered in Heatwave?
Not all departments are housed at the same wave level. Thus, in the English Channel, as soon as temperatures reach 18 °C at night and 31 °C at daytime, the orange vigilance can be triggered. In Charente, the threshold is much higher, at 20 °C/36 °C.
In front of the heat wave, the first orange vigilance was triggered by Météo France for this weekend, marked by numerous musical events.
The firefighters had to intervene to fight some 20 fires that broke out and then spread to fields in several departments, including the Vendée, Indre and Vienna. Everywhere in France, farmers are in the middle of harvest. The weather is ideal to harvest their barley, wheat or straw crops. But it is also a risk of fire. Weather France forecasts that the heat wave will experience its peak in the departments of the West on Saturday 20 June.
On Friday morning, "minimum temperatures are already warm, of the order of 17 to 20 °C on the departments of Manche, Rhône and Isère, from 19 to 21 °C on the other departments in orange vigilance", says Météo-France.
