Former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Quevin Castro died on Saturday at age 25 after collapsing during a friendly match in Portugal.
Castro collapsed just 10 minutes into the match against Estrela on Saturday, prompting an immediate postponement of the friendly.
Medical staff from both teams rushed to the pitch with a defibrillator, but resuscitation efforts failed; Castro was declared dead at the hospital.
Before moving to Portugal this summer, Castro played for York City, Chippenham Town, and West Bromwich Albion, debuting against Arsenal in the 2021 Carabao Cup Second Round.
Estrela expressed "deepest sorrow for the passing of Quevin Castro," while everyone at Lynn Town shared condolences for their former midfielder.
