Restraining order petition provides new details in case of Hawaii doctor charged with trying to kill his wife
- Maui doctor Gerhardt Konig, 46, was charged with attempted second-degree murder after allegedly attacking his 36-year-old wife on a hiking trail in Oahu on Monday.
- Konig's wife had filed a temporary restraining order petition last week detailing alleged controlling behavior beginning in December 2024, accusations of an affair, and an incident where he tried to push her off a cliff, leading to extreme jealousy.
- According to an affidavit, Konig allegedly yelled at his wife, pushed her into bushes, struck her head approximately ten times with a rock, smashed her face into the ground, and attempted to inject her with syringes, while she yelled for help and was eventually able to crawl towards two other hikers.
- Konig FaceTimed his adult son covered in blood, stating, "I just tried to kill ", while his wife told police Konig asked her to take a selfie with him close to the edge of the trail, after which he began yelling at her when she declined.
- Konig is being held without bail at the Oahu Community Correctional Center, his preliminary hearing was canceled following a grand jury indictment, and he has been suspended from his position as an independent contractor anesthesiologist at Maui Memorial Medical Center, while a GoFundMe has been created to support his wife and children.
