Harry Maguire Opens up on England World Cup Snub by Thomas Tuchel
Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire was excluded from England's 26-man World Cup squad by manager Thomas Tuchel, a decision Maguire said surprised him given his form.
Tuchel delivered the omission via an awkward FaceTime call, with media reports surfacing about Maguire's status roughly half an hour before the manager officially contacted him.
Citing consistency, Tuchel said he preferred the "four lads" who played through autumn qualifying matches. Maguire maintained he was experienced and would have accepted playing just one minute.
Following Newcastle full-back Tino Livramento's injury, Tuchel reportedly plans to call up Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah, leaving Maguire overlooked once more.
Now 33, Maguire acknowledged that at 37 for the next World Cup, opportunities look "far away," though he insisted he remained a big personality capable of contributing.
