Italy's World Cup Winner Grosso Appointed Fiorentina Coach
Fiorentina expect Fabio Grosso to steady the club after it finished 15th last season and flirted with relegation, president Giuseppe Commisso said.
On Monday, Serie A club Fiorentina appointed former Italy international Fabio Grosso as head coach on a two-year contract. Club president Giuseppe Commisso stated Grosso has the "personality, the method, and the enthusiasm" to build a stronger team.
Grosso resigned as coach of Sassuolo last week after guiding them to an 11th place finish in Serie A this season. He had been in charge since July 2024, leading the club to promotion from the Italian second division.
Formerly a defender with Palermo, Inter Milan, and Juventus, the 48-year-old helped Italy win the 2006 World Cup. His only previous top-club experience with French outfit Lyon lasted three months, ending after seven matches.
Fiorentina finished 15th last season after flirting with relegation under Stefano Pioli and then Paolo Vanoli. Management aims to "open a new chapter" following this difficult campaign.
This appointment comes amid a broad coaching shake-up across Serie A. Bologna, Napoli, Milan, and Lazio have also changed or are preparing to change their head coaches this summer.
Now it is also official: Fabio Grosso is the new coach of Fiorentina. The announcement was given by the club viola through its own channels: Grosso signed a contract until 2028 with option, at 1.2 million annually. (ANSA)
