- The New York Times reported Saturday that Border Patrol field leader Gregory Bovino disparaged U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen during a DOJ conference call on Jan. 12.
- Tensions arose on Jan. 12 when Bovino disparaged Rosen, who observes Shabbat, for being unavailable during a call, according to The New York Times.
- On the call, Bovino reportedly said he mocked `chosen people` and sarcastically asked if Orthodox Jewish criminals `don’t take weekends off`, according to people with knowledge of the call.
- Neither Bovino nor the DOJ responded when lawyers in the Minneapolis field office said Bovino's comments left them `deeply unsettled`, and the call came a day before six federal prosecutors resigned.
- Bovino, long the public face of immigration enforcement, was reassigned shortly after scoffing at Alex Pretti as a victim, while DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin urged focus on victims and Bovino told CNN `The victims are the Border Patrol agents`.
