Greece Intercepts Iranian Missiles in Saudi Arabia
Greek military personnel operating a Patriot air defense system in Saudi Arabia intercepted two ballistic missiles from Iran. The missiles targeted Saudi oil refineries. This interception marks the first operational engagement by Greek forces since deploying the system in 2021. Several countries, including France and Australia, offer support against Iranian threats.
The systems were activated after a threat alert and two missiles were launched to intercept the target, which was heading towards refineries in the city of Yanbu.
The presence of Greek forces in Saudi Arabia has been ongoing since 2021 and is the result of a bilateral defense agreement between the two countries, known as the Status of Forces Agreement.
