Beloved ITV Series Set to Come to an End After 62 Years with 'Moving' Final Chapter
The closing chapter will revisit the original 14 participants as the series ends after 62 years and reflects on lives, hopes and setbacks.
ITV announced the final documentary, 70 Up, will air later this year, concluding the legendary series after 70 years as participants reflect on their triumphs and tribulations.
Originating in 1964, the experimental series followed 14 people from age 7, revisiting them every 7 years to chart their growth into adulthood and becoming one of the most influential documentaries ever produced.
Filmmaker Asif Kapadia has taken over directorial duties for the concluding film, marking the first installment without director Michael Apted, who died at age 79 in 2021.
Featuring long-time subjects Sue Davis, Bruce Balden, and Tony Walker, the film includes a poignant interview with the late Nick Hitchton as participants reflect on their triumphs and tribulations.
Jo Clinton-Davis, Controller of Factual at ITV, hailed the series as "much more than a TV documentary," calling it a "truly distinctive landmark piece of filmmaking" capturing universal life themes.
