- Dec 15: The Centre will introduce the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission Bill, 2025 in Lok Sabha to repeal the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, sources said.
- A 2022 committee set up by the Ministry of Rural Development studied scheme performance and submitted its report last year; under the current law, rural households received about 50 days of work in 2024-25 despite a 100-day entitlement.
- Data from 2024-25 show only about 50 crore person-days were generated by states using their own budgets, out of 290 crore total, despite the NDA government proposing to increase guaranteed days from 100 to 125.
- Because states must fund extra work, only 6.74 lakh families hit 100 days this year compared to 40.70 lakh last year, affecting household entitlements.
- The Winter Session of Parliament, which began on December 1, will conclude on December 19 and also includes the sustainable harnessing and advancement of nuclear energy for transforming India bill, 2025.
