Govt cuts petrol price by Rs5.45, diesel's by Rs3.68 per litre
OGRA said the cuts follow a 30-day refinery contribution plan that will trim consumer fuel costs by Rs15 billion.
Effective Nov 4, OGRA reduced Petrol prices by Rs5 per litre and HSD by Rs3 per litre. Petrol now retails at Rs369, while HSD costs Rs391.
Amid the ongoing Middle East conflict, the government reintroduced austerity measures, requiring markets to close by 9pm and cutting fuel allocations for official vehicles by 50 per cent.
Malik Khuda Bakhsh and Anwar Kamal, representing Petroleum dealers, called for a transparent forensic audit of Refinery profits, arguing an audit could provide consumers relief of Rs40 to Rs50 per litre.
Stating "even better news will come before us," Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik hinted at further price reductions while announcing efforts to introduce a similar fuel pricing system for LPG.
The government currently levies Rs114 per litre in taxes on Petrol and Rs100 on diesel. Fuel prices had previously surged following the US-Iran conflict that began in Feb.
