Govt slashes petrol by Rs3.4, high-speed diesel by Rs7.76
South African motorists will experience price relief at the pumps from Wednesday, November 4, 2026, following official monthly fuel price adjustments announced by the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources.
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced a R10 billion relief package during his Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement, reducing the general fuel levy by R1.50 per litre for petrol and R3.00 per litre for diesel in November.
While diesel consumers benefit from substantial reductions exceeding R1.09 per litre, petrol prices edge down by just one cent per litre; households relying on illuminating paraffin and LPGas face steep price increases.
Severe international headwinds, including rising global oil prices of around $115 per barrel and a weaker rand, heavily impacted basic fuel prices, necessitating the temporary intervention to cushion consumers.
The temporary tax relief will step down from December 1, 2026, to January 5, 2027, offering reduced levy cuts of R1.00 per litre for petrol and R1.50 per litre for diesel, Godongwana said.
