Gov. Tony Evers Requests FEMA Funding for Damage Caused by April Storms
The request covers aid for 19 counties and one Tribal Nation, with damage estimates topping $27 million, officials said.
On Friday, Governor Tony Evers formally requested more than $27 million in federal disaster assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency following severe April storms and flooding across Wisconsin.
A joint assessment by Wisconsin Emergency Management and FEMA found more than $27 million in statewide damage, including nearly $10 million in residential costs across more than 1,570 properties and $17.6 million in public infrastructure repairs.
The request seeks FEMA Individual Assistance for residents in 19 counties and the Oneida Nation, alongside Public Assistance for 14 counties and Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funding to reduce future disaster impacts.
President Donald Trump will determine whether to approve the declaration with no set timeline for a response, following Evers' earlier criticism of the administration's denial of similar aid after last summer's flooding.
State officials advise residents to document damage and save receipts while awaiting a decision, as Evers urges the president to "meet this moment with the urgency it requires" to help communities rebuild.
