Google Launches Dedicated Gemini App for MacOS

The free app adds screen sharing, file uploads and creative tools, while Google says more than 100 Mac features arrived in less than 100 days.

  • On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, Google released a native Gemini app for Mac, allowing users to access the AI assistant directly from their desktop without opening a browser.
  • Following a similar Windows release one day prior, Google expands its desktop footprint to compete with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Perplexity for dominance in the AI chatbot market.
  • Users can activate the app with an Option + Space keyboard shortcut to "share anything on your screen with Gemini," enabling contextual analysis of local files and documents.
  • Nano Banana image generation and Veo 3.1 video creation are built into the app, which requires macOS Sequoia or later and syncs all conversations with a user's Google Account.
  • Google plans to integrate Gemini into Siri and Apple Intelligence features later this year, with additional details expected at WWDC 2026 starting June 8.
