CHINA, JUL 14 – Global electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle sales reached 1.8 million units in June, with Europe up 23% and China up 28%, while North American sales declined, Rho Motion data showed.
- Worldwide purchases of electric and plug-in hybrid cars increased by 24% in June 2025, largely fueled by robust demand in China and Europe.
- This surge followed lasting incentives and market momentum abroad while the U.S. government cut the $7,500 EV tax credit and relaxed fuel economy norms.
- Sales in China increased by 28% to reach 1.11 million units, Europe experienced a 23% growth to approximately 390,000 units, while sales in North America declined by 9% to just above 140,000 units.
- Data manager Charles Lester noted that some cities in China have exhausted their subsidies, which may have caused a recent slowdown in the market.
- The trends suggest continued growth in global EV sales this year, with more subsidies expected in the second half potentially causing a "big boost" in volumes.
