Gartner Predicts AI Models and Platforms Spend to Hit US$64B

Gartner said foundation and specialized generative AI models are driving the increase as providers face pressure to prove usage, efficiency and margins.

  • Gartner reported that worldwide spending on AI platforms and models is projected to reach $64 billion in 2026, up 63.4 per cent from $39 billion in 2025.
  • The Foundation Generative AI Models segment is expected to rise to $23.4 billion, while DSLMs are forecast to grow 210 per cent to $4.9 billion, driving overall market expansion.
  • Platform segments for application development are projected to increase to $9.5 billion, while platforms for data science and machine learning are expected to grow to $26.4 billion.
  • "Enterprise AI budgets are coming under greater scrutiny," Arunasree Cheparthi, senior principal research analyst at Gartner, said, noting spending is shifting toward providers demonstrating clear value and cost transparency.
  • Cheparthi added that "the biggest winners will be vendors that help enterprises manage where and how AI is used," as buyers seek platforms to monitor performance and control costs.
