US and Germany agree to deliver five Patriot air defence systems to Ukraine, Berlin says
GERMANY, JUL 21 – Germany and the US agreed to supply five Patriot missile systems to Ukraine to counter heavy Russian air attacks, with delivery expected soon, German Defense Minister said.
- On July 21, 2025, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced an agreement to send five Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, and these systems are expected to arrive as quickly as possible.
- Amid intensifying assaults, Russia's summer offensive, which included 426 Shahed-type drones and various missiles launched overnight, has made the need to adequately arm Ukraine's military pressing.
- Meanwhile, Switzerland said the US Defence Department is diverting a Swiss Patriot order to help Ukraine, while Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Germany will pay for two systems and Norway agreed to supply one, and Norway pledged F-16 fighter jets plus a $7 billion aid plan.
- Speaking at the Ramstein meeting, Boris Pistorius said `Germany will facilitate the rapid provision of five urgently needed Patriot systems` and added that coordination with partners on the systems' delivery will continue in the coming days.
- If no agreement is reached by August 1, Germany is urging robust actions, and Friedrich Merz confirmed Ukraine will receive Patriot air defense systems within weeks, with final arrangements discussed at defense ministries.
