Rheinmetall to Supply Anti-Tank Missile Firing Schakal Infantry Vehicles

The order supports German medium forces and shared logistics, with deliveries planned from late 2027 and more vehicles possible under contract options.

  • The European procurement agency OCCAR ordered 69 more Schakal wheeled infantry fighting vehicles—35 for Germany and 34 for the Netherlands—raising the total on order to 291. ARTEC, a Rheinmetall and KNDS Deutschland joint venture, will build them.
  • These vehicles will equip the infantry of Germany's new "medium forces" brigades, designed for rapid road deployment between heavy armored units and light infantry. The purchase was planned in Germany's 2025 draft budget.
  • Known as the Boxer RCT30, the vehicle mounts the unmanned turret of the tracked Puma infantry fighting vehicle onto the Boxer's eight-wheeled armored chassis. It carries a three-person crew and transports up to six dismounted soldiers.
  • Rheinmetall disclosed its share of the order involves a medium three-digit million-euro sum, with deliveries scheduled between May 2032 and November 2033. Production will occur at German sites operated by Rheinmetall, KNDS Deutschland, MTU, and Hensoldt.
  • Germany and the Netherlands retain options to order up to 200 additional vehicles under the contract. Because the Schakal shares its chassis with existing Boxers in service, both armies can utilize common training, spare parts, and maintenance.
