German mothers' earnings after the birth of their first child are significantly lower than previously estimated, according to a new report from the Leibniz Center for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim. The analysis indicates that the income gap between women with children and their childless peers reaches tens of thousands of euros annually, despite relatively high levels of government support.
