Google TV Adds Gemini AI Integration So You Can Talk to Your Television
Gemini AI enables natural language TV interactions on TCL QM9K, with plans to reach over 300 million Google TV and Android TV devices by year-end, enhancing user experience.
- Today, Google launched Gemini on Google TV starting with the TCL QM9K series, the only Google TV devices shipping with Gemini right now.
- Because Gemini requires Android 14 and extra horsepower, initial compatibility is limited to higher-end TV sets and streaming boxes, but Google plans to update many lower-end TVs over time.
- Google says Gemini will replace Assistant on the platform and handle richer conversational queries, letting TV owners find shows from vague descriptions, get recaps, reviews, and YouTube suggestions with follow-ups.
- Later this year, Google plans to expand Gemini to the Google TV Streamer, Walmart onn. 4K Pro, 2025 Hisense U7, U8, and UX models, and 2025 TCL QM7K, QM8K, and X11K models, reaching over 300 million active Google TV and Android TV OS devices.
- Google says this is just the start and will add more Gemini TV capabilities over time, including presence-sensing, a homescreen redesign, and exploratory virtual try-ons.
