Gaza civil defense says 9 killed Friday when Israeli forces fired at bus
Nine members of a Palestinian family were killed after their bus crossed a ceasefire boundary, marking the deadliest Israeli military incident since the ceasefire began, officials said.
- On Friday night in the Zeitoun neighbourhood, Israeli forces fired on a bus carrying displaced persons, and civil defence crews recovered nine bodies from the Abu Shaaban family.
- The IDF said the vehicle crossed the 'yellow line' and warning shots failed to stop it, so troops fired to remove the imminent threat to IDF troops operating in northern Gaza.
- Gaza's civil defence reported 11 people from the same family, including women and children, were killed in the strike, the deadliest since the ceasefire period eight days ago.
- The IDF warned Palestinians against entering areas of Gaza still under IDF control, and Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said the army will install visual signs due to unclear markings and limited internet.
- Under the US-brokered ceasefire, Israel freed 250 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and 1,718 detainees from Gaza, while Hamas returned all 20 living hostages and the Hamas-run health ministry reports at least 67,900 killed in Gaza.
